Beaverton, Ore.–based apparel and footwear giant Nike Inc. is reorganizing its business based on six geographic regions, “reduced management layers” and more focus on core categories of its business. Shifting from a model based on four geographic regions (the United States, Asia Pacific, Americas and EMEA, which included Europe, the Middle East and Africa), Nike will now be divided into six regions: North America, Western Europe, Eastern/Central Europe, Greater China, Japan and Emerging Markets. The new model is part of company-wide changes that include reducing its workforce by 4 percent by the end of the fiscal year. The company currently employs nearly 35,000 people worldwide.
