L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2010: Oliver Tolentino

Designer Oliver Tolentino’s Spring 2010 collection brought a dose of glamour and femininity to the runway during his Oct. 15 show at Downtown L.A. Fashion Week. Packed with red carpet–ready gowns and dresses in tropical hues dripping in everything from embroidery to silk cocoons, heavy beading, fresh water pearls, handmade flowers and oodles of flouncy ruffles, the collection was nothing if not girly. A deep plum ball gown featured a skirt laden with intricate fabric appliqueacute;s. A series of off-white organza gowns made for dramatic wedding dresses. Some of Tolentino’s fabrications were equally interesting. The designer opted for fabric woven from pineapple and added texture to a variety of pieces with raw silk cocoons.—Erin Barajas
