Trunk Show Series 'The Gifting' Takes a Bow at Ron Robinson

Barbara Schiller debuted eco-skin care line Body Conscience

Debuts and fashion trunk shows kicked off the holiday retail season early at the Ron Robinson boutique at Fred Segal Melrose. On Nov. 5, the exclusive boutique started its month-long series of trunk shows and product debuts, called The Gifting.

One of the first taking a bow at this trunk show series was Los Angeles-based eco-skin care line Body Conscience. It pledged chemical-free skin products that could help save water. Also showing was the Six Scents fragrance line; each fragrance was co-crafted by a prominent designer. Fashion designer Phillip Lim helped created the line’s second scent, which builds on the aromas of milk and roses.

Also appearing at The Gifting debut was Surf accessories line Nixon. It displayed its limited-edition headphones and rubber watches co-designed by skateboarder Paul Rodriguez, the owner of the Primitive skateboard line.

Los Angeles-based fashion line Dirtee Hollywood had a table at this trunk show event. With his Charlotte, N.C., accent, the label’s founder and creative director, David Long, did not seem to be as Los Angeles as the Dodgers baseball team and smog alerts. But he hoped the two-year-old line, which includes T-shirts, sweaters and track jackets, will evoke the freewheeling spirit of the party scenes of the “dirty” South and of Los Angeles. In 2010 his label’s sense of fun will take on New York City. He will debut his line’s collaboration with New York graphic and comic book artist Molly Crabapple. This collaboration will take a bow on Feb. 20.
