Denimatrix Partners With Label Maker

Denimatrix—the Guatemalan maker of premium jeans for brands such as Rock & Republic, Gap and Banana Republic—announced a partnership with Accesorios Textiles (Actex), the largest local label producer in Guatemala. The move will accelerate Denimatrix’s speed to market.

Denimatrix is part of the Textile and Apparel Division of the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association, a farmer-owned cooperative based in Lubbock, Texas. When it began producing jeans in March 2009, Denimatrix became the first fully integrated vertical supply chain from raw cotton to finished jeans in the Western Hemisphere.

“We decided to go one step further in our vertical integration to achieve what our clients are looking for by partnering with Actex,” said Carlos Arias, Denimatrix’s president, in a statement.

Under the new partnership, the 20-year-old label maker will install a state-of-the-art label-manufacturing operation inside the Denimatrix facility. Once operational, the facility will be capable of producing 50 million labels, including printed labels, woven labels, heat transfers, hangtags, price tickets and size strips. Denimatrix produces 120,000 pairs of jeans per week.—Erin Barajas
