Liz to Penney's

The venerable Liz Claiborne brand, a decades-old label originally designed to sell to well-heeled working women, will be sold only at J.C. Penney Co. department stores in a 10-year deal starting August 2010. Liz Claiborne Inc., whose other labels include Juicy Couture and Lucky Brand Jeans, is hoping to staunch the red ink that is flowing this year from the Liz Claiborne brand and regain profitable ground in 2010. Liz Claiborne Inc. will design the merchandise, and J.C. Penney will source, distribute and market the label. In addition, the Isaac Mizrahi–designed Liz Claiborne New York line will be sold on the QVC home-shopping network beginning in Fall 2010. The apparel, accessories and home products will be designed by Mizrahi, and QVC will merchandise and source the products. After Holiday 2009, Liz Claiborne New York will exit the department store business.
