Kmart Puts It on Layaway With Verreos

Last year, designer Nick Verreos talked about his most-memorable Christmas gift (a sewing machine from mom, natch) in a holiday commercial for Sears.

This year, the “Project Runway” alum is going to Sears’ sister store Kmart to talk about the stores' layaway program.

The en español version of Verreos’ Kmart commercial has begun airing on Spanish-language TV and the English-language versions will be airing soon.

(Style Network’s “Clean House” host Niecy Nash will also appear in separate ads for Kmart’s layaway program.)

Filmed at Kmart’s Burbank store (“which is kind of fabulous!” Verreos said), the commercials feature the ebullient designer extolling the virtues of layaway.

“It makes sense in the economic market we’re in,” he said. “I’m always a last-minute shopper and it just drains me. This is perfect—especially for families. You can pick out your gifts, put them on layaway and go spend time with your family.”

Verreos has several other projects in the works—but nothing he can discuss, yet. (But think “What Not to Wear” meets “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style” meets “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” meets "Work Out"—and then heads out for a nationwide tour. It sounds pretty fabulous—and perfect for Nick!)
