ASAP Hangs On

A scant seven booths made up the latest run of the ASAP Global Sourcing Show, held on the ground floor of The Venetian hotel.

Anchored by the Macau Trade & Investment Promotion Institute, the show featured off-shore factories that produce sweaters, jeans, casual knits, uniforms, children’s apparel and accessories.

Large signs offering samples for sale helped draw people into the Regent Industry booth, although Jacky Yau, director of marketing for the company, which is based in Hong Kong with a factory in China, said they always sell samples at the show. Regent Industry has been showing at ASAP twice a year for the last five years, Yau said.

The show is tucked between the Off-Price Specialist Show at the Sands Expo & Convention Center and several other trade shows at The Venetian. Last season, the largest of The Venetian shows, the Project Global Trade Show, moved to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, a move that cut into ASAP’s traffic.

“[Project] brings in a lot of traffic,” said Show Coordinator Jerome Yuan, adding that traffic this season improved over that of the February show.

Despite the small number of exhibitors, Yuan said the company is committed to Las Vegas. “We want to be in Vegas with some presence,” he said.—Alison A. Nieder
