New York Fashion Week kicked off yesterday and West Coast designers got a shout out from the editors of Elle.

Los Angeles designer Max Azria landed the No. 1 position of Elle Market Director Joann Pailey’s “Top Five from N.Y. Fashion Week” with his floral-print and black bandage mini from the BCBG Max Azria collection, which showed on the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park.

Pailey dubbed the look “Perfect for a surfer girl's night on the town,” a timely critique, since Azria recently appeared as a judge on the current season of “Project Runway.” The challenge: Create a surfer-girl look and a more avant-garde ensemble that ties back to the original piece.

Another Los Angeles brand, William Rast, got the Twitter treatment from Elle Creative Director Joe Zee, who had a private preview of the Spring collection with William Rast creators Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala at their hotel.

His review: “They're such cool, classy Southern gentlemen with such a strong vision for the WR girl: kickass tough and sexy as hell. Highlights: the new 'biker bondage' jkt according to Trace, a skinny black cropped jean with zip and yellow silk sweat with the WR flag.”

Zee then headed over to the Erin Wasson X RVCA show, where he "tweeted" this intriguing item: “Mayhem at Erin Wasson's show already.”

Can’t wait to get the scoop!
