Waterwear 2011: Charlie by Matthew Zink: Bringing Sexy Back

Many consider Victoria’s Secret the standard of sexy. But former Victoria’s Secret swimwear designer Matthew Zink thought he could top his achievements at the lingerie label and make a bikini that is even more provocative, luxurious and sexy.

The result of this designer’s challenge is Charlie by Matthew Zink. Zink’s swimwear line debuts at the Miami SwimShow in Miami Beach, Fla., in July. Refined fabrics are crucial to this line. A daring silhouette will give it a unique cachet. “For too long, people have looked at swimwear as not something of fashion. It deserves to be considered fashion,” he said.

Charlie by Matthew Zink is composed of 15 bottoms, 15 tops and a one-piece suit. The main fabric used is a microfiber nylon/Lycra called Eurojersey Sensitive. Zink said the fabric dries quickly and is very thin yet provides a lot of support.

For his color palette, Zink opted for solids in gold, white, black and a fiery lipstick red, as well as a chevron pattern, which will come in three colors.

For fashion silhouettes, Zink gave the bikinis a different look by placing a V-shape in the waistband of some of the bikinis. Charlie by Matthew Zink is not as tiny as Brazilian swimwear. However, it is still cut smaller than the classic American suit. “This is for a girl who wants to show off,” Zink said. “This is for a girl who wants a tan.”Retail price points for the suits should range from $180 to $215.
