What's on the Boardshorts, Pilgrim?

It’s been more than a generation since iconic cowboy actor John Wayne died in 1979. That’s more than an eternity in pop-culture memory, but Costa Mesa, Calif.-based fashion line Tavik decided that John Wayne need to be remembered for something more than an airport.

With the collaboration of Wayne Enterprises, the licensing company of the late actor’s estate (not Batman’s Bruce Wayne’s fictional company), Tavik debuted the Shooter boardshort, surfing trunks bearing the graphic of well-oiled holster that Wayne may have worn in his well-regarded movie The Searchers, which hit theaters in 1956.

The Shooter boardshort has been sold at The Closet, Swell.com and Tilly’s. Tavik President Erik Paulsen said the cowboy actor added more inspiration for the wider John Wayne X Tavik line. Also popular are Tavik’s graphic tees inspired by John Wayne such as the Pilgrim and the Marshall, all emblazoned with graphics of John Wayne and blazin’ rifles. Giddyup!
