Denim Plant

A new $180 million denim plant is going up in Edinburg, Texas, to be close to the cotton fields of Texas and the denim manufacturing plants in Los Angeles. Santana Textiles Corp., a Brazilian company that is one of the largest denim manufacturers in the world, had planned to start construction earlier, but the economic downturn delayed the project. The 700,000-square-foot plant will be built in three phases, with the first phase opening later this year. The other phases are expected to be completed by 2014. This is Santana Textiles’ first venture in the United States. It has plants in Argentina and Brazil.
