Los Angeles designer Trina Turk, known for her colorful prints and contemporary line of clothing, has been named this year's "Mercedes-Benz Presents" designer for the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim event at The Raleigh hotel in Miami Beach in July.

Turk won the honor for using unique prints and quality material. Turk has also been a steady mentor to budding swimwear deisgners at the Otis School of Art and Design, located at the California Market Center in downtown Los Angeles. In the past, designers who have won this award include Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka, Narciso Rodriguez and Red Carter. Last year's winner was Monica Wise of L*Space in Irvine, Calif.

At the upcoming swimwear fashion show, to be held July 15–19, Turk will be presenting her 2011 swimwear collection, which draws inspiration from Acapulco during the 1960s and 1970s, when Hollywood stars frequented the Mexican resort.

"It's always special to be recognized for my work in a large industry with many talented designers," Turk said.

In addition to her runway show, Turk will be making a personal appearance at her Bal Harbour Shops store in Florida on July 17 to show off her pre-Fall and swimwear collection.
