Christmas in October?

Kids haven't even started to say "Trick or Treat," but the South Coast Plaza shopping center in Orange County has been tweeting about the arrival of its 96-foot Christmas tree.

The giant white fir arrived at 5 a.m. today, hoisted into place by a 200-foot crane that tilted the tree into the middle of Town Center Park near the Westin South Coast Plaza Hotel.

The tree journeyd for two days and 650 miles from Mt. Shasta, where it had been living for the past few decades. The driver was sending out tweets to update everyone in the tree's progress.

After its early-bird arrival, South Coast Plaza officials in Costa Mesa hosted a celebratory breakfast for surrounding office tenants who munched on mini-burritos, egg quiches, scones, fruit, and best of all, gingerbread lattes. Yum.

Now the elves get busy and start decorating this giant bush with 15,000 colored lights. Bet their electricity bill goes up for a while.

The official tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18, just in time for Santa's arrival the next day at the humongous shopping center with more than 250 stores.
