Backspace SF Closes

Veteran independent San Francisco boutique Backspace SF announced it was closing this week. “Boutiques are having a rough time now,” said Backspace owner Susan Jones. “People are saying, ’Hang in there,’ but hanging in there is no fun.”

Backspace specialized in eco-fashion and local fashion designers and jewelry. It opened in 2004 in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood and moved to San Francisco’s North of Panhandle neighborhood in 2006. Jones said she is confirming a final closing date for her boutique around Sept. 17. For her next gig, she will take a sales job at Bloomingdale’s in San Francisco’s Union Square.—Andrew Asch
