Alex Maine Wants to Defend America, Apparel

Los Angeles entrepreneur Bron Heussenstamm is launching Alex Maine, a new menswear brand and retailer, to preserve American jobs. quot;Patriotism and entrepreneurship are what this country was founded on, and the ability to merge them is an amazing feeling for all of us here at Alex Maine,quot; Heussenstamm said.

quot;Together, we can bring jobs back to this great country and show that the United States can be a leader, not a follower, in fashion manufacturing.quot; According to the company, quot;Alexquot; means quot;defenderquot; and quot;Mainequot; represents quot;homeland.quot;

Designed by Dan Marriner, formerly of brands such as Reef and Element, Alex Maine debuted April 21 with the launch of its retail location at 8025 Sunset Blvd. on Hollywood’s quot;Sunset Strip.quot;

The company, which quot;stands up for the American economy by bringing textile jobs back to America,quot; produces its entire collection in the United States and introduced its collection and retail location simultaneously.

The Alex Maine 1,300-square-foot flagship highlights the brand’s national pride and dedication to workmanship, the company said. quot;A tailor will be on hand to help nip, tuck and fine-tune the namesake pants,quot; a release from the company said. Sewing machines are on the sales floor for the purpose of whipping up one-of-a-kind garments. American whiskey is served at the store’s built-in bar, and customers are encouraged to watch the Lakers or play Xbox on the store’s flat-screen televisions.

The initial collection will focus on non-denim pants, with hoodies, T-shirts and thermals added for Fall 2011. The collection will sell at the Alex Maine store and its e-commerce site. —Erin Barajas
