Chez Panisse, that northern California culinary icon, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. And to commemorate the event, the restaurant, founded by Alice Waters, and Levi Strauss Co. are getting together to sell organic cotton T-shirts designed by celebrities such as David Byrne, Sofia Coppola, Dave Eggers and Maira Kalman.
Proceeds of the T-shirt sales will go to fund Waters' Edible Schoolyard Project started in Berkeley many years ago to encourage gardens next to schools.
The T-shirt line will launch on Aug. 24 at select Levi's stores around the country and online at www.levi.com.
