Brioni Closes Women's Line

Italian design house Brioni is shuttering its womenswear division and closing a plant in Congiunti, Italy, dedicated to women’s apparel. The high-end label is also canceling its womenswear runway show scheduled to take place during Milan Fashion Week next month. The company’s chief executive, Francesco Pesci, said the design house needed to concentrate on its menswear and get its financial affairs in order. Rumors have been swirling that French fashion luxury group PPR—whose divisions include Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Yves Saint Laurent—is interested in buying the Italian label.
