Sports Authority to Open in Northridge

Sports Authority Inc. will move into the former Borders bookstore space at Northridge Fashion Center, a regional mall owned by General Growth Properties. The mall is located in Los Angeles’ Northridge section.The Northridge Borders shuttered in September, leaving a big footprint to fill—53,936 square feet. Sports Authority is scheduled to open its doors at the Northridge Fashion Center in spring 2012. The store will offer fitness apparel, sports teams’ jerseys and sporting goods. Sports Authority Inc. runs a fleet of more than 450 stores in America and is headquartered in Englewood, Colo. Northridge Fashion Center also announced a few other store openings: Sports-apparel shop Fanzz opened a 2,143-square-foot shop on Dec. 1. A 2,250-square-foot Steve Madden store was scheduled to debut at the center on Black Friday (Nov. 25). My Fashion Club, a discount retailer, opened a 3,633-square-foot shop near the center’s Sears store on Nov. 11, and a Sephora cosmetics store opened at the mall in September.Northridge Fashion Center is anchored by a Macy’s and a JCPenney. The mall’s other fashion tenants include H&M, Forever 21, Gap, Hot Topic, Love Culture and Aeacute;ropostale.—Andrew Asch
