Honda Revs Up its Creative Apparel Engine With Crate

When it came time to launch its new clothing collection, the American Honda Motor Co. went back to the future.

The Japanese carmaker, whose U.S. headquarters is in Southern California, recently announced it is launching a line of T-shirts, jackets and casualwear that will bear some of the vintage logos Honda used from the 1950s to the 1980s.

The Honda Heritage Clothing Collection will be designed by the Los Angeles creative consultancy firm Hubris Factory and manufactured by Crate Clothing in Los Angeles.

The line will launch with three T-shirts that will feature the heritage-inspired logo from Honda’s 1959 Los Angeles storefront, graphics featured on the 1974 Honda Civic sales brochure and a page from a 1973 Honda Civic hatchback catalog. The T-shirts will sell for $40. More clothing will follow in late spring.

“Honda is excited to celebrate its heritage by re-creating styles and accessories from the past,” said Steve Center, vice president of American Honda’s national marketing operations. “We hope that fans of Honda and vintage clothing will celebrate with us through the Honda Heritage Clothing Collection. American Honda was founded in Los Angeles in 1959, and the fact that these pieces are being designed and produced by partners in Los Angeles is a perfect fit for these historic pieces.”—Deborah Belgum
