From the Internets: Iran Hates Denim, Fashion, Heels

Conan would end up in the clink for this outfit/hair combo in Iran.

Welp. That's no fun. Iranian lawmakers not only hate puppies (and freedom and us), they hate skinny jeans on guys, fashion and high heels. One particularly prickly lawmaker, Ali Akbar Rafiepour, went on national TV and told men to avoid denim, not only because they are a Western affectation, but because jeans can cause infertility in men. Because they are too snug... and nestle certain bits too much. Which, according to this WSJ.com article, is true. Rafiepour also said the word "jeans" comes from "jinn". Jinn, according to Islamic texts, are spirits able to assume animal or human form, the news site scotsman.com reported.

Apparently looking like a jinn is pretty bad too, because Radiepour also said women should lay off the high heels because they make feet look like the hooves of the jinn. Maybe he has a point? NAH.

Most disturbing is the fact that summer in Iran means the reported rollout of 75,000 morality police who patrol the streets of Tehran making sure men and women don't play it fast and loose with fashion in the heat. No-no's include: skin, ankles, makeup, tans and bare heads for women and fancy haircuts (i.e. ponytails, anything that requires gel), necklaces and shorts for men.
