Los Angeles Fashion Week: The Battalion

Designer Linda Wong looked to the dynamic sport of fencing to provide inspiration for The Battalion’s Fall 2011 collection. Confidence, power and elegance were the qualities she wanted to convey.

“We looked at fencing from every era, and we used a lot of the details,” explained the designer.

High collars, hoods and quilted elbow details were applied to jackets. Playing on the masculine/feminine dynamic, she incorporated lace in place of chain mail to soften the hard edged look. Short dresses were layered over long dresses to elongate the silhouette and peplums were added to jackets to provide extra drama.

Key items included jackets made from a popular vegan-friendly fur, a heathered moto jacket made from recycled Japanese cotton and a stunning finale gown with ruffled details at the shoulder. —N. Jayne Seward
