Los Angeles Fashion Week: Isabelle Donola NYC

Brazilian expats Isabelle Donola and Luciana Ellington opened the Costella & Donola Co-Op on West Hollywood, Calif.’s Melrose Place in late 2010. Their store is a cooperative for high-fashion designers. On March 20, the boutique was the site for a runway show for the Isabelle Donola NYC line.

New York musician Connor Whiriskey (AKA Cnnr) composed a mysterious ambient song especially for the event, where more than 20 models exhibited Isabelle Donola NYC’s Spring 2011 collection. It might have been cold and raining the night of the show, but inside, models wore sleek dresses made out of silks and linens. The dresses featured asymmetric cuts and geometric draping, probably made for an intellectual day at the beach. All models wore hats designed by Los Angeles’ Anita Hopkins. Inspired by Coco Chanel and the millinery of the ’20s to ’40s, Hopkins made crowns, mini-fedoras and cocktail hats. —Andrew Asch
