California Designer to Show in London

A gown from Jill Alexander Designs

Sometimes curvy women are forgotten in fashion. Not at Jill Alexander Designs, based in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The 40-something woman behind the self-named line knows what it's like to be more than a size zero since she's a little curvy herself. Since launching her label two years ago, her creations showed last year at Full Figured Fashion Week Los Angeles and this year at Full Figured Fashion Week in New York.

Now she has been invited to attend the Curves in Couture show in London on Nov. 17 to debut her Spring 2012 line. The show is being organized by Angel Sinclair, founder of Models of Diversity. "Jill Alexander's work represents exactly what we want this show to communicate and that is that there are designers who have created a range of beautiful, well-made, vibrant and colorful garments for women who have curves to flatter," Sinclair said.

Most of Jill Alexander's collection of dresses, skirts, tops and jackets are manufactured in Los Angeles and sold at her shop in Santa Cruz or online. She is a firm believer that curvy women don't have to stick to dark, drab colors and printless garments. Her inspiration for her Spring collection is Latin America with its rich, vibrant colors.
