Getting Down With Eddie

Eddie Bauer has reinvented the down jacket, which is only fitting, since the man who founded the Seattle-based company invented it in the first place. Or, at least, he--the Eddie Bauer--landed the first American patent for the down jacket, called the Skyliner.

To celebrate, the company has reinvented the 1936 Skyliner with a new modern look. The modern update is pictured, here’s the original.

The Skyliner reboot is just part of the company’s down offerings for fall, which includes the MicroTherm Down Shirt, the Bombshelter Jacket and the BC MicroTherm Jacket, which combines 800-fill goosedown with a waterproof and breathable outer shell, according to the company.

For those of you (like me) who geek out on fashion history, Eddie Bauer has created a video with the story of the Skyliner and Eddie’s harrowing bout with hypothermia on a winter fishing trip in 1936.

For those of you with a shorter attention span, you can go straight to the pictures in this Eddie Bauer video touting the company’s latest collection.
