S&G Spring 2012

S&G, short for collaborative designers Sequoia Emmanuelle and Guita Salem, presented a varied assortment of looks for men and women on Oct. 13 as part of the Concept Los Angeles Fashion Week series of shows at ACE Gallery in Los Angeles. One ensemble would be a neat, short leather jacket worn with slim, dark, raw denim pants decorated with shiny gold diagonal zippers that opened like eyelids and descended down the length of the legs. Another one would be post-apocalyptically severe, in gauzy fabrics and shredded at the sleeve openings. Whether the hems were finished or tattered, the design aesthetic had an overall toughness and edginess. The best looks were the ones that teetered on the balance of both straight edge and deconstructed proportions, such as sweaters with dangling threads, extra-long wrap-around scarves or an intricate macrameacute; top worn with solid simple bottoms.—Rhea CortadoPhotos from the event can be found here.
