Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion Spring 2012

Gen Art’s “Fresh Faces in Fashion” show returned to Los Angeles with near capacity attendance. More than 800 guests attended the 13th annual event, which closed Style Fashion Week LA at Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 22. Zoe Saldana, actress and co-founder of MyFDB.com, hosted the evening’s festivities which celebrated emerging design talent.

#8232;The evening kicked off with a cocktail reception to fecirc;te accessory designers Plomo, TOMTOM, Iman Toloui and Sticks & Stones followed by a group runway show and after-party. The group show included womenswear designers Dear Creatures, Funktional, Odylyne, 71 Stanton and Stand and Deliver as well as swimwear line We Are Handsome and menswear line Chambers. The show had plenty of California casual looks ranging from light and breezy to grunge and bordering on gothic. Dear Creatures showed sweet vintage-inspired dresses and Funktional chose to elaborate on the season’s trending American Indian theme complete with full headdress regalia. Odylyne’s collection was filled with a variety of sundresses and plenty of ruffles and Australian swim line, We Are Handsome showcased its hip animal and oceanic-themed prints. 71 Stanton was one of the more complete collections filled with easy sportswear in relaxed shapes and color blocking. Chambers explored a grunge-meets-outdoor look with plenty of plaid, denim and varsity jackets set to the sounds of Nirvana. Stand and Deliver closed the show with dramatic leather, furs and dark moody looks and some serious theatrics. Models making out, nudity, skate boarding and a staged fist fight were just part of the action.—N. Jayne Seward Photos from the event can be found here.
