La La Land Spring 2012

Designer Daisy Linhares took her inspiration from the wild beasts of Africa to create the prints seen on her T-shirts, maxi skirts and oversized tops that paraded down on the runway during Style Week Los Angeles.

Linhares, originally from Brazil, scooped up images of gazelles, flamingoes and tigers and stamped them onto soft knits and chiffons that flowed like a Kalahari breeze in her recently created La La Land label.

The Oct. 17 event at Vibiana during Style Fashion Week L.A. was heavy on casualwear, such as cropped knit tops that were shorter in the front than they were in the back. Pants rustled with light fabrics, and cotton knit cardigans hugged warmly, reaching to mid-thigh.

The easy casualwear was subdued in tone with blacks, grays and butter tones making up most of the collection.

The designer said that fashion has gotten so serious that she wanted to have a line that would be fun, unpretentious, effortless and imaginative. It is all made in Los Angeles.—Deborah Belgum
