No matter how small your closet, there always seems to be more room for another top. So it was pretty cool when Sharlene Durfey and Carlos Martinez debuted their new tops line Secession Sept. 1 at Harvard Stone, one of Hollywood’s groovier haunts.

The name has nothing to do with the American Civil War, but takes inspiration from the19th century Austrian art movement, which was led by iconic painter Gustav Klimt for awhile.

All of the tops are manufactured in Los Angeles and typically feature graphics made by Sharlene.(As a card carrying member of the Joy Division fan club, I particularly enjoyed the “Love Will Tear Us Apart Again” T-shirt, a lyric honoring Joy Division’s ditty Love Will Tear Us Apart.”)

Guys’ looks feature crew-necks, V-necks and a tank top.The girls’styles declares a secession from fashion’s size zero looks. Said Sharlene “I like oversized, comfortable, more drapey designs that you could wear with jeans or a pencil skirt.” For that classic boho look, many of the tops could be worn with one shoulder off.
