Lori Marchand has always been a pioneer at heart. She had one of the first showrooms on the reconfigured fifth floor of the C building in the California Market Center.

After more than 25 years of working out of the CMC, Marchand moved across the street to the Gerry Building, where, since July 1, she shares a showroom with Millie Troll, whose Luxe Showroom also used to be located in the CMC.

For Marchand, this is the perfect space for her and her five contemporary lines of clothing and accessories. “I do my thing, and Millie does hers,” she said of sharing a showroom that basically has an invisible wall down the middle. Marchand, whose side of the space is called Impulse Showroom, occupies the right-hand side, and Troll’s labels are situated on the left.

The wrap-around floor-to-ceiling showroom walls provide a perfect display window for visitors to view her line of Sandy Duftler Belts, which are perched in the corner of the window near the hallway. These high-end leather and resin belts are part of Marchand’s accessories lineup.

Other labels include Ball of Cotton, which are hand-loomed sweaters made in the Los Angeles area by Elizabeth and Eddy Park. There is a wide color range of yarns and styles to choose from with various materials, such as cashmere, Merino wool, viscose and linen. “If someone wants a style that is a little longer than what we have, we can customize it,” said Marchand, pulling out a large notebook of yarns in different colors to show the range of hues buyers can select. Wholesale prices average around $145.

Off in another corner is a collection of intricate lace dresses made in Amsterdam under the Olvi’s label. The designer, Olga Yermoloff, uses fine stretch French lace and contouring fabric to create tops, skirts, exquisite cocktail dresses and evening gowns that evoke a certain Hollywood glamour. Some dresses are elaborately embellished at the waist or shoulder with sparkly stones. Wholesale prices range from about $300 to $500.

On the more casual side, there is Amma Design, another “Made in L.A.” label that makes polyester and spandex tunics, tops, skirts and leggings that come in bright sublimation prints as well as more subtle colors. They wholesale for $39 to $75.

Rounding out the brands is Raquel B, a jewelry collection of sparkly earrings, bracelets and necklaces with many pieces made of druzy, a coating of fine crystals over a rock fracture surface that has a bit of bling without being over the top. The designer is Raquel Alazraki, who used to run the Eclipse jewelry store with her husband, Rafael, in the lobby of the California Market Center. The jewelry’s wholesale prices range from $40 to $180. —Deborah Belgum
