Lira Swim: Bikini Flirtation

Lira Clothing debuted in 2007 as a go-to label for premium action-sports looks at moderate prices. For the Spring 2012 season, it debuted Lira Swim, a juniors swim line designed with plenty of sass.

Lira founder Todd Kellogg recruited Crystal Cannon, a swim designer with an edge, to craft the look of Lira Swim. Before trying juniors looks, she crafted Naked Girl Bikini, which she still runs. The Newport Beach, Calif.–based Lira collection features luxury poolside looks such as the “Gold Digger,” a gold metallic-colored, skimpy bandeau bikini with a hip-hugging bottom.

One of Cannon’s signature pieces for Lira is the more conventionally named “Malibu.” The Malibu’s bandeau top features a laser-cut fringe and a bow tie in the back.

Other Lira silhouettes include a twist bandeau and “cinch” bottoms, which are designed to create more curves. Lira Swim styles also include a nod to the ’80s with a palette of neon colors, Kellogg said.

Wholesale prices for the line range from $16 to $19 per piece. Pacific Sunwear tested the line in November and had reordered, Kellogg said. Also, Lira debuted a capsule collection of men’s boardshorts at the Agenda trade show in January.
