Clade Takes Downtown L.A.

Maya Reynolds

Maya Reynolds has placed her Clade menswear line in some of Los Angeles’ most exclusive boutiques; Traffic, Church and Opening Ceremony. Since she opened up her own boutique, also called Clade, in November, she has a perch to provide an alternative to the current American classic look of chinos, jeans and blazers, Reynolds said.

On March 1, she will produce a soiree at her downtown Los Angeles store to celebrate her Spring 2012 line with the adventurous name Expedition. The line was inspired by the travels of 19th century European explorers in Cambodia. It takes fusty Victorian looks like tailcoats, but gives them a rock 'n' roll update. The tailcoat silhouette was roughed up, given a distressed look as if it was slashed up in an arduous hike through a jungle.

Clade’s Winter 2011 line was dubbed Further, it was inspired by a different kind of exotic travel; Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters' legendary Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test trips through America. One jacket from the Further collection, called Angry Fix, fits like a biker jacket, but was constructed out of soft materials of boiled wool and lambskin trim; an update of a beatnik look.

Both collections will be on display at the Clade’s party, which runs 7PM to 11PM, Thursday. The party is open to the public, and the shop is located on 6th street between Spring and Main streets, adjacent to the Stanton James contemporary boutique. For more information, visit Clade’s website, mb999collections.com.
