What The Boys Will Wear in 2012

Check out the color, man! A Dolce Gabbana jacket at Traffic.

For years men’s fashions were reliably gray and black as a winter sky. But that won’t be the story for 2012 said Cassidy Burton, men’s fashion director and buyer for e-commerce emporium Revolve Clothing.“For Spring 12 men's, get ready for bold pops of colors along with wearable prints... Don't be scared!” Cassidy said.

Definitely scary and shocking to someone like me. I've worn blue or black jeans along with some kind of dark shirt since my mom stopped dressing me. I could dismiss Cassidy’s forecast as wishful thinking. But Sara Dovan, co-owner of Traffic, also confirmed that men’s styles were on a colorful streak.

“Color will be very strong,” she predicted for the upcoming year. Her proof? At Traffic, she presented purple blazers from Dolce Gabbana, burnt orange pants by the Closed label, and to cleanse the senses after that riot of color, a cream jacket by DSquared2.

2012 looks will be further embellished by beanie caps and accessories, Sara said.I saw beanies made by the Vivienne Westwood label as well as beaniedom’s most in vogue look; the floppy beanie, where the top of the cap flops over like a Santa Claus cap. Bow ties are forecast to take 2012 by storm.

Fortunately some things won’t change said Lisa Kline, who will be launching online marketplace Vaniti this year. She forecast jeans will remain straight legged, with lots of washes veering toward the dark part of the spectrum.

She also forecast popularity of shirt jackets, which will are meant to be layered over a T-shirt; plaid shorts when the sun shines, and for the ubiquitous lazy man, sweats pants, sweat shorts and hoodies. Also predicted, the continued popularity of fedoras. Rejoice hipsters!
