Textiles, Fashion and Tech to Meet at 8th Annual Smart Fabrics Conference

With an agenda that includes presentations by Nike, Adidas and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the eighth annual Smart Fabrics Conference will bring the worlds of textile, fashion and technology together to discuss the future of the smart-fabrics industry.

Set for April 17–19 in Miami, the Smart Fabrics Conference will explore new and emerging wearable technologies and the financial forecast for the smart-fabrics business, as well as provide an interactive workshop in which conference participants can work on concepts and prototypes with instructors from Georgia Tech, Parsons The New School for Design and the University of Colorado, Boulder.

The conference is organized by IntertechPira, a research firm and publisher covering a range of technical industries, including lighting and displays, alternative energy, home and personal care, industrial biotechnology, performance materials, and chemicals. IntertechPira is a division of Pira International.

Smart Fabrics 2012 presenters include Stacey Burr, vice president of wearable sports electronics for Adidas; Patrick Williams of Nike’s Advanced Materials Research division; Stian Ueland, a Ph.D. candidate with MIT’s department of materials science and engineering; and Hap Klopp, chairman of Cocona Fabric, a performance-textile maker based in Boulder, Colo.
