L.L. Bean Introduces Wacky Bootmobile

Is it something to do with the weather up there in Maine?

Maybe, because the executives at L.L. Bean seem to be suffering from not enough sun or too much time indoors thinking of crazy ways to promote their brand.

Case in point is the bootmobile. As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, outdoor retailer L.L. Bean today unveiled a 13-foot high and 20-foot long vehicle that looks like an outdoor boot. It was showcased in Brunswick, Maine, where the company's boot manufacturing facility is located. It also stopped at the L.L. Bean flagship store in Freeport, Maine.

But its big reveal is on Wednesday at New York's Times Square where it will be stationed between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. before embarking on a tour of major cities in the United States.

As part of the celebration, L.L. Bean is re-introducing a special edition of the Maine hunting shoe to emulate the first pair built by L.L. Bean and its founder Leon Leonwood Bean.

As far as the bootmobile is concerned, no news about whether it will make it as far as Los Angeles. But we're waiting.
