Dynasty Designer Nolan Miller, 1933-2012

Alexis Morrell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan (a.k.a. Joan Collins)

Designer Nolan Miller died yesterday leaving a legacy that will forever be associated with the 1980s moneyed class, thanks to his Emmy Award winning work on “Dynasty.”

Miller created the designs for iconic ’70s and ’80s shows “Charlie’s Angeles,” “The Love Boat,” and “Fantasy Island.”

When I think of these shows, I think big shoulders, tiny waists, curve-hugging draped knits, rhinestone trim, huge hats and tons of white suits and dresses.

Let’s take a look at some of Miller’s fantastic work.

Charlie's Angels

What's happening here? Doesn't matter, those three little girls look fab.

Not everyone in the '70s went to work in a bikini.

But a whole lot of women in the '70s went to work dressed like this.

The Love Boat

Those uniform jackets were smart!

But Cruise Director Julie McCoy also had a few cocktail dresses stashed in the cabin.

Fantasy Island

Welcome...to a closet full of white suits.

Dynasty

The big shoulders!

The big royal wedding!

The big catfights!

Heather Locklear does not age.

The big fur hats!

More big fur hats!

Big summer hats!

Robert Urich's P.I. Dan Tanna was pretty low key. But check out the rhinestoned and feathered backup.
