Greenstar Vintage: Denim Repurposed

What do you do with a warehouse full of vintage Levi’s? If you’re Jeff Fuller, you find a stylish short cut.

Fuller is the creator of Old Stud Belts, the hand-crafted belt line favored by rock stars and fans of vintage style and craftsmanship.

His latest endeavor is Greenstar Vintage, a collection of boyfriend shorts made from vintage Levi’s. Each piece is 100 percent recycled and one of a kind and culled from Fuller’s warehouse of 80,000 pairs of vintage Levi’s jeans, said Tiffany Troncin, co-owner of the Room4 showroom, which represents the line.

The Levi’s styles are all pre-1999—“all American made,” Troncin added—before the denim giant moved production offshore.
Styles are available in the original washes—including stone and acid washes, deep saturated over-dyes, and bright tie dyes.

“These would be perfect for USC,” Troncin said, holding up a tie-dye style in cardinal and gold, the school colors of the University of Southern California.

Items can also be embellished with studs, Troncin added.

“You can customize for your store,” she said. There’s a 12-piece minimum, but retailers can mix and match styles in each order. Wholesale prices range from $44 for basic styles up to $69 for studded styles.

The line had a soft launch last season, and Los Angeles–based retailers Madison and Nasty Gal (www.nastygal.com) were among the stores that placed orders.
