Adidas Kicks Scott Kicks to Curb

Hankering for the Jeremy Scott-designed Adidas “JS Roundhouse Mid” sneakers? The ones with the bright yellow shackle and chain, pictured above? You’re out of luck.

The athletic apparel giant is withdrawing them from the market—although it’s backing away from any idea that the shoes reference slavery.

Uh huh.

In an apology sent to Today.com, the company said: “The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery. Since the shoe debuted on our Facebook page ahead of its market release in August, Adidas has received both favorable and critical feedback.”

The company pointed out that Scott has designed other “outrageous” sneaker designs for Adidas—including sneakers with panda bear heads and Mickey Mouse.

Riiight.

“Any suggestion that this [current design] is linked to slavery is untruthful,” the company added.

Got it.
