Nuvula Fall/Winter 2012

International label Nuvula introduced its Fall/Winter 2012 Collection at Ace Gallery Los Angeles on March 9 as part of Concept Los Angeles Fashion Week.

Designers Rebeca and Vanessa Victoria looked to La Belle Epoque and Bauhaus for inspiration, showcasing red-and-black harlequin coat-dresses with turquoise piping, tailored velvet jackets over ruffled blouses, and blousy, romantic striped dresses, in an homage to Gustav Klimt and Toulouse Lautrec and the designers’ favorite painters and literary heroes of the Victorian-era golden age.

Models sported lavender hair and messy buns, high ruffled collars, oversized bows, and brightly colored waistcoats and bustiers in a cross between “Moulin Rouge” and “Alice in Wonderland,” all to the backdrop of a live performance of “Roxanne.”

The eco-conscious label showed more than 60 looks, most of them romantic. Stripes, checkered prints, puffy sleeves, soft velvet draping and stiff collars dominated the collection, and gold, coral, turquoise, red and charcoal gray were the primary colors.—Deidre Crawford
