Nicole Richie Next in Line at Macy's

There's been a long line of designers who have joined forces with Macy's to do collaboration collections.

The latest on the list is Los Angeles-centric Nicole Richie, the reality TV star turned designer who also appears on the popular NBC-TV series "Fashion Star."

Richie is planning to create a capsule collection that will debut this September in Macy's Impulse department. Richie has been tasked with taking her lux bohemian style and designing garments that can transition from day to night. There will be maxis, assymetrical skirts, cropped tops and fitted jackets. There also will be retro prints as well as jewel tones to anchor the color palette.

The collection, which will be unveiled in 100 Macy's stores, will sell for $49 to $149.

Richie joins a cast of designers who have been working with Macy's recently to inject a little newness into their merchandise. Italian designer Alberta Ferretti was tapped on the shoulder to create a collection iinspired by the Amalfi Coast at prices ranging from $49 to $119. Her creations hit stores on April 17. The most high-profile designer to work with Macy's was Karl Lagerfeld.

Macy's executives said Nicole Richie's collection still is in the formative stages and no sketches were available to show. But she is an old hand at designing. She launched her Harlow 1960 jewelry line in 2008.
