American Apparel to Be in Japan Fashion Week

American Apparel has been selling its clothes in Japan for nearly seven years now.

So it thought it was about time to strut its stuff in the fashion world there.

The Los Angeles company, which does everything from knit and dye its own fabric in the Los Angeles area to cut and sew its garments here, has decided to participate in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo in October for the Spring/Summer 2013 season.

That's quite a feat considering that American Apparel doesn't have a designated designer. "We are honored to be one of the first brands without an appointed designer to show at the high-profile Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week," said Katherine Johnson, American Apparel's Japan operations manager.

The big reveal of the company's Spring/Summer line will take place during an installation on the first day of the event, Oct. 15, at 10 p.m. at Shibuye Hikarie, a 34-floor commercial complex.

Can't wait to see what American Apparel has up its cotton sleeve made in Los Angeles.
