Uniqlo Prefers Paramus

What’s cooler than L.A.? Paramus, N.J., apparently. At least, according to Uniqlo.

The Japanese fast-fashion retailer continues its glacial rollout of U.S. retail with a store at the Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus on Friday.

No disrespect to New Jersey—I am a former Jersey Girl, myself, and spent much of my formative shopping years in New Jersey malls. But New York City already has three Uniqlo stores, while California has none—until Oct. 5, that is, when the company opens its fifth U.S. store in San Francisco.

According to parent company Fast Retailing, Uniqlo has more than 1,100 stores around the world in Japan, the U.S., U.K. France, Russia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Korea.

Where’s the L.A. store? What is the holdup? We’ve got plenty of space for those multi-level Uniqlo stores. And the fun, bright merchandise will look fantastic in our year-round sunlight.

For Angelenos hungering for a rainbow selection of puffer coats, socks, T-shirts, tank tops and hoodies, there is there is one consolation. Uniqlo will open its U.S. online store later this year.
