Beautiful Fül Designer and Owner Alejandro Rodriguez produced a gala debut party April 25 for his first atelier. There was a live band playing Cuban music of the 1950s, and the füls, Alejandro’s colleagues, served mojitos to a thirsty crowd. The debut party was a hot ticket for party people, there was a long line of revelers looking to get past the store’s velvet rope to get to the fül’s party.

Rodriguez has placed Beautiful Fül,which is manufactured in Los Angeles, to high profile shops such as Canvas and Douglas Fir, but he wanted the world to look at the entire collection of Beautiful Fül, which was a reason for taking the plunge by opening his first shop.

Like director Steven Soderbergh, novelist Grahame Greene and almost anyone who wears a Che Guevara T-shirt, Rodriguez has a fascination for the milieu of 1950s Cuban political intrigue. For his spring/summer 2013 line, currently sold in his studio, the inspirations are worn literally on the collection’s sleeves. The füls’ floral shirts were inspired by the American gangsters who ran the island’s casinos in the 1950s, military jackets were inspired by Castro’s rebels, some of his black colored items were inspired by Che Guevara.

For Arlington Forbes, co-owner of the Canvas boutique in Malibu, Beautiful Fül’s best looks can be seen in the collection’s motorcycle jackets. “People come in my store and think his jackets cost $5,000. But they’re only $1,200. He delivers a great price point, and he never skimps on fabric,” Forbes said.
