J. Mendel Names New President and CEO

J. Mendel, the luxury womenswear brand based in New York, announced that Marc Durie is the new president and chief executive of the fashion house.

Durie, who was formerly Louis Vuitton's vice president of merchandising for the Asia Pacific region, also worked at Yves Saint Laurent fora number of years.Durie will bring his knowledge and extensive background in strategic marketing and visual merchandising to his new position.

J. Mendel, owned by The Gores Group, a private-equity company in Los Angeles, is known for its luxury evening gowns and red carpet–worthy dresses.

"I am delighted that Marc Durie is joining the J. Mendel team in this pivotal role," said Gilles Mendel, chief creative officer and fifth-generation family member of the label. "After conducting a thorough search with our partners, The Gores Group, we are convinced that Marc is the right leader for J. Mendel's future.

"His intimate knowledge of the luxury universe, along with his considerable experience in key international markets, makes him well-poised to achieve successful growth of the J. Mendel brand around the world. I very much look forward to partnering with him," Mendel said.

Durie replaces Susan Sokol, who announced her resignation in February, following her almost five-year tenure.
