Strong Japanese Buyer Turnout at Capsule

LAS VEGAS—Exhibitors at Capsule at the Sands Expo and Convention Center were pleased with the turnout—particularly from Japanese buyers. This season’s show primarily featured contemporary menswear apparel and accessories brands, as well as a select few women’s resources. Capsule organizers “do a really good job of curating the brands and merchandising the show,” said Laura Baker of New York–based Indigo Showroom, which was showing Marna Ro and Nicholas K.

“In Vegas, we can see our Japanese clients and Vancouver [retailers] who don’t shop in New York,” she said. Baker estimated that she also saw “about five times more Korean buyers” than she expected.

Los Angeles designer Micah Cohen, fresh off his showing at New York Fashion Week, was at Capsule with his latest Shades of Gray by Micah Cohen collection. The menswear designer was also debuting his new women’s collection.

Capsule’s Feb. 19–20 run opened on the same day at Project and ENKVegas, which may have but into initial traffic at Capsule.

“Yesterday was a little show, but today has been busy,” Cohen said on the second day of the show.

In addition to seeing Japanese buyers, Cohen said, showing at Capsule in Las Vegas makes it "easy for accounts who don’t have the opportunity to see the line in New York.”

In August, Capsule will join five other trade shows—including Liberty, the new show by Project founder Sam Ben-Avraham; Agenda, which will produce its first Las Vegas show; and Business Journals’ MRketStitch and Accessories The Show—in promoting the Sands and The Venetian as a one-stop shop for buyers looking for a broad mix of men’s and women’s apparel and accessories.
