COLLABORATION

Comune: Two for the Road

It’s a season of motorcycles and bikinis for Los Angeles brand Comune.

At the Agenda trade show July 25–26, the 5-year-old brand will debut its first collaborations for its men’s and new Comune WMNS line for women.

For men’s, it will debut a collaboration with Easyriders, the magazine notorious since 1971 for its pictures of Harleys and scantily clad models. The capsule collection, called Comune//Easyriders, will feature four T-shirts, a hat and a beanie. The items will feature logos and graphics from the biker magazine’s colorful history

For women’s, it will debut a collaboration with Minimale Animale, the swimwear label from Los Angeles’ Venice neighborhood, which is hosting its first runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim July 18–22 in Miami Beach, Fla. For the collaboration, called Comune//MA, Minimale Animale will contribute its most popular bodies, the string bikini and the “Tan Through” one-piece that singer Miley Cyrus wears in a video for her song “We Can’t Stop,” which was released last month.

In the spirit of collaboration, Comune will place its own prints on the Minimale Animale bodies. The string bikini will bear a sublimated print of Comune’s ocean photography. The sheer one-piece features appli qués in the shape of palm trees over the breasts. The Comune//MA suit will feature marijuana leaf–shaped appliqués.

The suggested retail price will be $190 for the string bikini and $285 for the one-piece. Comune plans to place the collaboration and the rest of its collection in contemporary stores such as Urban Outfitters, Revolve Clothing and American Rag,where it currently sells its men’s fashion.

While Comune has roots in action sports, its new collections are more contemporary. “We give it a high-end feel but at a better price,” said Patrick Winget, Comune’s design director

The signature piece for Comune’s women’s collection is the “Stella” pant, a two-tone waxed denim bottom with quilted stitching on the front. It retails for $128. The bottom will be shipped with the rest of the women’s debut collection in September. The launch collection featured a lot of denim. The Spring collection, which will be exhibited at Agenda, will feature more tops along with a white-colored version of the “Stella.”

At Agenda, Comune also will introduce its first footwear style, the brand’s version of the mod Chelsea boot.
