Urban Outfitters to Open in Malibu

Philadelphia-based Urban Outfitters will open a 10,000-square-foot store in Malibu, Calif., in August.

Located in the Malibu Country Mart, the store is the retail chain’s first in the area.

“We came across an opportunity for a space in Malibu that we can do something really interesting with,” said Brandon Meade, district manager for Urban Outfitters, in a statement. “The building, previously an old warehouse, has an outdoor space in the back, so we approached the design in a way that really made use of this outside area. This is our first store in the Malibu market, and we look forward to becoming a part of the community.”

The store will feature architectural elements such as wood rafter ceilings, heavy timber fitting rooms and a “god’s-eye multi-colored floor.” Glass garage doors will connect the store to a courtyard that will feature a fire pit and seating for events.

The store will carry clothing and accessories for men and women, as well as home decor, music and lifestyle products. The company anticipates hiring more than 50 employees for the store.
