FINE JEWELRY AUCTION

Christie's New York Magnificent Jewels Preview in LA

If diamonds are a girl’s best friend, then fine jewelry of all kinds must be a girl’s BFF. So, when Christie’s asked me to attend their “Magnificient Jewels” Spring preview I was only too happy to oblige. Glamour, luxury, and iconic red carpet moments flashed through my head - and I wasn’t disappointed.

From Cartier to Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels and Buccellati to Tiffany & Co and Jean Schlumberger, there was an exquisite selection from the 290 piece collection on display. Highlights of the various owner sale are in Los Angeles for two days and will return to the iconic auction house in New York before the April 16 sale.

Diamonds, colored stones and vintage items are just some of the items to be auctioned off. According to Leslie Roskind, Senior Specialist, Jewelry Department and Senior Vice President Christies America’s, sales are curated for what buyers are currently seeking. Diamonds, signed jewelry &/or iconic period pieces, emeralds (Pantone’s color of the year) and quality in general are current criteria at the top of the list.

Some of my favorite pieces included a stunning Harry Winston diamond and emerald necklace valued at $800,000 to $1,200,000 and a Schlumberger tourmaline, sapphire and diamond starfish which pre-dates the designer’s work at Tiffany & Co. There was also an exquisite Cartier Art Deco sapphire and diamond bracelet from the ‘20s and an antique diamond dog collar necklace by an unknown designer.

While some buyers will be shopping to add to their personal jewelry case, others will be collecting for investment purposes. The jewelry was so glamorous, I couldn’t help but think which actress might end up in one at the Oscars next year.
