REDEVELOPEMENT

Anjac to Redevelop Singer Building

Anjac Fashion Buildings, one of the Los Angeles Fashion District’s prominent property developers and pioneers, is planning to redevelop a building just a few storefronts up from its ornate The Orpheum Theatre and The Wurlitzer showroom building.

The Singer Building, located at 808 S. Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, will be renovated into retail and residential uses, said Jessica Needleman, property manager for Anjac. However, the project is still in the planning stages, and no date has been scheduled to start construction or to unveil the project.

The Fashion District is currently in the midst of a building boom. Popular boutique hotel company Ace Hotel will open a 12-story, 180-room Los Angeles location later this year at the corner of Ninth Street and Broadway. In January, City Market, a more than $500 million, 10-acre development, was announced. City Market will be between San Julian and San Pedro streets and Ninth and 12th streets. A few high-rise residential buildings also recently started construction at the edge of the district.

In other Anjac news, there is a new tenant at The Wurlitzer building, located at 818 S. Broadway. Aesthetic Movement showroom moved into The Wurlitzer in January. Exhibiting accessories, jewelry, gifts and apparel, the Wurlitzer showroom is the fourth location in Aesthetic Movement’s group of showrooms, said Melissa Ritchie, the company’s West Coast sales representative.
