LAFW Fall 2013: Mike Vensel

American fashion designer Mike Vensel brought out the witch hazel and sartorial spells to debut his Winter 2013 collection at his March 9 fashion event at Concept Los Angeles at Siren Studios in Hollywood.

Vensel took a metaphorical approach, tapping into an apocalyptic scene, using the idea that human kind is often oblivious, losing oneself to modern elements of technology.Using natural minerals to create a dark, futuristic look, Vensel played around with bamboo rayon, silk chiffon and ultra suede materials to give a fluid shape to each garment, showcasing a range of deconstructed pieces executed in a clean and flattering fashion. The black and white hues offset each other with asymmetrical long gowns, sleeveless, mini dresses, billowy ponchos and dramatic outerwear pieces.

Vensel said, “I used fabric that holds shape, [is] durable and is an eco-friendly version of leather and suede so it gives you the warmth of suede but without harming animals.
