What inspired you to become involved in the fashion industry?

It was more like I fell into the fashion world. After graduating from school I wasn’t able to find a job on Wall Street. I studied to be an economist, but that was the time when people where jumping out of windows and being arrested for insider trading. I had an uncle that made old lady polyester dresses and he offered me a job in production. I said to myself it was only temporary… and 20 plus years later I am still here….and loving it.

You have worked in almost every facet of the garment industry from manufacturing to marketing, which has been the most rewarding?

What we do now in my office. Helping emerging designer understand the business side of their business. But most rewarding is saving a retailer from closing. Over the years we have worked with hundreds of retailers in a distressed situation and helped turn around their business. When you can help someone from not losing their home, child college fund and turning a business around to become profitable….it’s WILDLY rewarding.

With summer quickly approaching, most of us are preparing our wardrobes for hot weather and beach getaways.  What is your summer style?

Ha! Just because I am fashion doesn’t mean I have any idea on how to dress myself. My summer look is anything I can reach into my closet and pull out without getting trapped in there.

What is the one item in your closet you can’t live without?

My cashmere blanket size wrap. It’s 15 years old and has a few moth holes but it gives me great comfort when traveling.

You travel around the world with work.  Do you find that your travels influence your style?

I am always packed and ready to go so packable non wrinkle type fabrics are a must. I also pick up a ton of accessories while away which make great conversation pieces.
